REQUIRED TEXTS

Charles Dickens, Great Expectations (Penguin)
Mary Elizabeth Braddon, Lady Audley's Secret (Oxford)
Robert Browning, The Ring and the Book (Penguin)
Bram Stoker, Dracula (Norton)

We will use the editions of the novels that are listed above.  Several of 
the introductions will be assigned specifically.  You should read each 
novel's endnotes and other editorial matter (appendices, explanatory 
notes, etc.).  Some short outside critical readings may be distributed 
and assigned.


REQUIREMENTS

Two 5-page papers, due Wednesday, March 4, and Friday, April 17 

One final 10- to 12-page paper, due Monday, May 18.

One in-class presentation-discussion on a topic of your choice.

Individual conferences, held during the semester.

In addition, we may have occasion to handle small assignments or further 
discuss questions via email.  If you need to contact me, the best method
